Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has stirred conversation online after contrasting the award process at the Academy Awards with that of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

The actor made the remark on his Instagram story on Monday while reacting to a viral video showing Michael B. Jordan watching his Oscar statuette being engraved shortly after his win at the 2026 ceremony.

Sharing his reaction, Remi expressed admiration for the process, jokingly comparing it with how winners reportedly receive their trophies at the African award event.

    “So happy for MBJ.

“So they engrave your name after you win! Right there. Take it home! If na AMVCA, all of you will share one for the night then come back and collect it at the next award,” he wrote.

Jordan recently won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the film Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler.

The Hollywood star played dual roles as Smoke and Stack in the Southern Gothic horror film, which reportedly received multiple nominations at the 2026 Oscars.

His victory also placed him among the few Black actors to have won the Best Actor category in the history of the Academy Awards.

In his acceptance speech, Jordan thanked Coogler and paid tribute to Black film pioneers including Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington for paving the way for future generations.

Remi’s comment also reignited discussions among Nollywood fans about his past absence from the AMVCA nomination list despite his performance in Anikulapo.

In 2023, the actor delivered a widely praised role as Saro in the film, which received multiple nominations at the awards. However, his omission from the Best Actor category surprised many movie lovers.

Reacting at the time, Remi thanked fans for their support while congratulating colleagues who made the nominations list.

“I have been seeing all the tags after the AMVCA nomination announcement. It would be nonchalant not to appreciate the love, calls and messages. Thank you kindred.

“First of all, congratulations to all my friends/colleagues. This year won’t be great without your amazing work and effort. God save una, cos if I dey the categories I for win (joke) before una say otherwise. Let the best man win,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have closed submissions for the 12th edition of the ceremony scheduled to hold in Lagos in May, 2026.
