President Tinubu Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu has reportedy resigned from his cabinet.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State, complying with a directive from President Bola Tinubu mandating all political appointees seeking elective office to step down by March 31, 2026.

Adelabu’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated March 26 and addressed to the President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, marking a key political shift within the Federal Executive Council ahead of the next election cycle.

In the letter, the former minister expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, highlighting his contributions to reforms in Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s policy agenda.

He stated that his decision to step down was to enable him fully commit to his ambition of contesting for the Oyo State governorship, dedicating his time and resources to the political pursuit.

The resignation comes shortly after Adelabu publicly apologised to Nigerians over recent nationwide power outages that have disrupted businesses, schools, and daily life, particularly during the ongoing dry season heat.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, he acknowledged the hardship caused by the electricity disruptions, describing the situation as temporary and largely driven by factors beyond the government’s control.

He assured citizens that authorities are working round the clock to restore stable power supply and return to the improvements recorded in 2025.

Adelabu’s exit signals the beginning of broader political realignments as members of the administration position themselves ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
