The Spanish foreign minister on Wednesday reiterated Madrid’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, saying the Middle Eastern country “must be included” in the ceasefire reached between the US and Iran.

“Lebanon must be included in the ceasefire reached today in the Middle East,” Jose Manuel Albares wrote on the US social media company X following his phone conversation with Lebanese counterpart Youssef Raggi.

During the phone call, he reiterated Spain’s support for the sovereignty of Lebanon and rejection of the attacks by Hezbollah and Israel.

Albares also expressed Spain’s support for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, saying Tehran presented a “workable” 10-point proposal for negotiations.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the 10-point proposal delivered to the US through Pakistani mediation includes a key US commitment to non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, and the lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions.

The proposal also includes paying compensation to Iran, withdrawing US combat forces from the region, and ending the war on all fronts, including the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
