Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Rachel Martins, better known as DJ Dimplenipple, says that beyond the bright lights and high-energy performances, discipline, consistency, and hard work define her journey in the entertainment industry.

Speaking with reporters in Lagos on Thursday, she noted that many people focus on the glamour of DJing but overlook the effort required to stay relevant.

“People see the fun part — the stage, the dancing, the crowd — but they don’t see the work behind it. “For me, hard work and consistency are everything. You have to keep improving, keep showing up, and keep proving yourself every time,” she said.

Since launching her career in 2019, Djdimplenipple explained that staying consistent has helped her refine her craft and earn the trust of both fans and industry stakeholders.

“I practice a lot, I listen to new music every day, and I study different styles. You can’t afford to be stagnant in this industry. The moment you relax, someone else is ready to take your place,” she said.

A graduate of Rise Academy in South Africa, she said her training provided a solid technical foundation, but real growth came from continuous learning and experience on the job.

The popular DJ also emphasised professionalism, especially when working with brands and event organisers.

She stated, “It’s not just about talent. Your attitude, your timing, your ability to deliver — all of that matters.

“When people book me, they know I’m coming with energy and excellence.”

Despite the challenges of a competitive industry, Dj Dimplenipple said she remains focused on her long-term goals, including expanding her global reach and headlining major international events.

She stated that her career has already included performances at Warri Again, Okochiri Festivals, Tape Lagos, and Red Room, as well as a successful UK tour that introduced her to a wider audience.

“I’m always pushing myself to be better than I was yesterday. That’s what keeps me going,” she said.
