Caleb University College of Law has recorded a strong performance at the maiden edition of the JURITRUST Centre Administration of Criminal Justice Academy Moot Competition, emerging as the Overall Best Institution in the Southwest and finishing third nationally.

In a Saturday statement signed by the varsity’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, the institution said the victory reinforces its growing reputation in legal education.

The institution also clinched a ₦200,000 cash prize following its impressive showing at the competition, which tested students’ advocacy skills and understanding of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

The competition, held at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, brought together leading law faculties from across Nigeria in a simulated courtroom exercise aimed at strengthening legal education and justice system reforms.

Reacting to the achievement, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, described the win as evidence of the institution’s commitment to producing globally competitive legal professionals.

He said the performance reflected the university’s focus on discipline, excellence, and practical legal training.

“Our students have once again demonstrated that Caleb University is a hub of excellence, discipline, and intellectual depth,” he said.

Also speaking, the Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Olugbenga Asaju, praised the students for their performance, describing it as the outcome of structured mentorship and rigorous training.

“Our students displayed exceptional courtroom dexterity, sound legal reasoning, and confidence under pressure,” he said.

The team’s performance was formally recognised with a ceremonial cheque of ₦200,000, in addition to certificates and institutional awards presented at the event.

The competition was supported by the MacArthur Foundation and aimed at improving clinical legal education and deepening students’ understanding of criminal justice administration in Nigeria.

According to organisers, Caleb University stood out for its strong advocacy skills, composure during judicial questioning, and mastery of criminal procedure.

He noted that the achievement reflects the university’s strategic commitment to academic excellence and national relevance.

The JURITRUST Moot Competition is designed to expose law students to real-life legal challenges through simulated courtroom advocacy and to support reforms in Nigeria’s justice system.
