Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has denied reports alleging that she was responsible for the re-arrest of an X (formerly Twitter) influencer, Big Ayo, who previously clashed with her online in 2024.
The actress, in a swift reaction to the viral claim on Tuesday, described the report as “fake and false,” stressing that she had no involvement in any such action and was busy on a movie set at the time the allegation surfaced.
“Arrest Ayo as how, pls this is fake and false news. I’m on set filming. Pls kindly disregard. I didn’t get Ayo or anyone arrested; it’s all love from me. Thank you and I will advise to kindly take this down pls,” she stated.
The allegation originated from a now-deleted post by an X user, Khan, who had claimed that Ayo had “allegedly been arrested again” at the instance of the actress. The post quickly gained traction, reigniting conversations around Abraham’s past actions against online trolls.
However, another X user, Prince Adeshina, moved to debunk the claim, clarifying that the actress was at a film location and had no connection to any arrest, which she acknowledged with a retweet.
“For the attention of the general public: Toyin Abraham was at a movie location and did not arrest Ayo. We urge the general public to consider the circulating report as fake news,” Adeshina wrote, further warning that the originator of the claim may be required to substantiate it with evidence.
The resurfaced allegation appears to draw from a previous high-profile incident in July 2024, when Toyin Abraham took legal action against individuals accused of cyberbullying her on social media.
At the time, an X user identified as Jeffery publicly accused the actress of arresting his mother over trolling allegations. In an emotional post, he claimed his mother had been picked up from her shop and taken to a police station over actions he insisted he did not commit.
The actress, however, later clarified the situation, stating that it was not Jeffery’s mother who was arrested but his friend, Big Ayo, whom she accused of persistently abusing her and making offensive remarks about her family online.
Ayo, known on X as Big Ayo, had posted a controversial message targeting the actress, accusing her of using funds allegedly linked to political support to finance personal matters, including a procedure for her husband. The post triggered outrage and marked a turning point in Abraham’s response to online harassment.
In a post released shortly after the incident, Abraham defended her decision to involve law enforcement, stating that she would not tolerate insults directed at her family. She also expressed emotional distress over the sustained attacks, warning that she had been pushed to her limit.
The actress’ ordeal with online trolls has been partly linked to her open support for Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. Her endorsement of Tinubu sparked widespread reactions on social media, with critics repeatedly demanding that she justify her support and disclose the “ideas and vision” she claimed the president shared with her.
Since then, Abraham has remained a frequent target of online criticism, with some users resorting to personal attacks involving her family.
