NBC has warned Arise TV and Channels TV among others over breach of broadcasting code.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Broadcasting Commission has issued a warning to television broadcasters and anchors over alleged violations of Nigeria’s broadcasting standards.
In a notice released on Friday, the regulator cited a growing trend of unprofessional conduct across news platforms, stressing the need for strict compliance with the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
The commission specifically addressed broadcasters including Arise Television and Channels Television, cautioning that it would enforce all provisions of the code without compromise.
According to the NBC, the directive focuses on key principles such as fairness, balance, accuracy, avoidance of hate speech, prevention of incitement, and respect for constitutional institutions.
The regulator also urged media organisations to exercise professionalism when reporting on sensitive issues, including politics, communal conflicts, and war-related developments.
It warned that sanctions would be imposed on anchors or presenters found guilty of presenting personal opinions as facts, intimidating guests, denying opposing views a fair hearing, or engaging in conduct that undermines neutrality and human dignity.
The NBC reiterated its commitment to maintaining ethical broadcasting standards and ensuring responsible journalism across Nigeria’s media landscape.
