    Man Utd want Fernandes

Manchester United could compete with Paris Saint-Germain to land West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes at the end of the campaign.

The Red Devils are determined to bolster their midfield department for next season, and they could pursue more than one signing, as per The Telegraph.

The Athletic now claim that United have been hugely impressed by Fernandes’ progress at the Hammers and could make a summer swoop.

They won’t be alone in the transfer pursuit, with Paris Saint-Germain also weighing up an approach for the former Southampton midfielder.

The Hammers are currently placed 17th in the standings with 33 points, two ahead of Tottenham Hotspur for the last relegation spot.

If West Ham are relegated to the second tier, they may be forced to sanction Fernandes’ sale for a cut-price deal of around £40 million this summer.

If they beat the drop, the scenario could be quite different. The club could easily demand more than £65 million for the highly-rated ace.
