I do the cooking at home, not my wife, says Banky W

Singer and pastor Banky W has said his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, does not cook regularly at home, adding that he handles the kitchen himself and does not see it as a problem.

Speaking on the Teju Baby Face Show published on Thursday, he addressed the subject after the host referenced a viral video of him preparing sausages, eggs and bacon that had generated significant reaction online.

Banky W said the arrangement worked for them and that anyone uncomfortable with it was entitled to their opinion.

“There are some men, my wife must cook for me. My wife does not really cook, which she can cook very well, but it’s not her thing,” he said.

He said the dynamic was one he had come to see as a natural fit rather than a compromise.

“See the way God works, right? I enjoy cooking and I love eating and she loves eating. And it just means that if you come to our house, there are some people that will come and see me cooking and they’ll be like, ah, what’s going on. It will make some people uncomfortable but it works for us.

“And I think that’s the thing that people in marriage need to understand, is like what works for you will be different from somebody else. So don’t live your life by somebody else’s expectations or rules,” he said.

Banky W said the arrangement had to be understood in the context of everything Adesua had sacrificed for their family, particularly during their struggle to have children.

“In our journey to having children, I’ve seen her endure things that would break people. I’ve seen her when we were trying to have Hezekiah and we were going through IVF cycle after IVF cycle and it wasn’t working and she would get back on her feet and inject herself with whatever they said. I’ve seen her put herself through. So is it now that I now say cooking is hard?” he said.

He said the experience of watching his wife through those years had made acts of service feel natural rather than burdensome.

“It’s easy to give those acts of service when you have a wife like this,” he said.
