Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has hailed the Yoruba Tennis Club for its enduring legacy as the organisation marked its 100th anniversary with a centenary lecture series attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
The event featured a keynote lecture by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who spoke on the theme “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria.”
In a post obtained from his X handle on Friday, he described the club as a historic institution that has contributed significantly to intellectual engagement and national discourse over the past century.
“This centenary is not just a celebration of age, but a celebration of impact, consistency, and relevance,” Obasa said.
He praised the club for sustaining a platform that continues to encourage dialogue on governance, unity, and national development.
Obasa also highlighted the importance of the lecture’s theme, noting that inclusive governance remains critical to addressing Nigeria’s socio-political challenges.
“What we are discussing here today, inclusive governance and national unity, is at the heart of what we need as a country. We must continue to embrace unity, dialogue, and collaboration at all levels of leadership.
“Congratulations to the Yoruba Tennis Club on a remarkable centenary celebration and for sustaining a legacy that continues to shape meaningful conversations for national development,” he said.
He commended the organisers for putting together a meaningful intellectual gathering, urging members of the club to preserve its values for future generations.
The centenary lecture drew prominent guests from government, business, and professional circles, reinforcing the Yoruba Tennis Club’s long-standing role as a hub for elite discourse and national reflection.
