Bandits have reportedly kidnapped Former Defence Spokesman Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar and his wife.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), and his wife have reportedly been abducted by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Matazu area of the state while the retired military officer and his wife were travelling to Katsina.

According to security sources, the gunmen intercepted their vehicle and forcefully whisked the couple away to an unknown destination.

The driver of the vehicle was also attacked during the incident but reportedly escaped despite sustaining a gunshot injury.

Sources disclosed that the retired general’s vehicle, a red Peugeot 504, was later recovered and taken to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.

An internal security alert circulating among military contacts, reportedly shared by retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa, confirmed the abduction and called for urgent action to secure the release of the victims.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Police Command nor military authorities had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Major General Abubakar served as Director of Defence Information and was one of the military’s most prominent spokespersons before his retirement.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity and the activities of armed bandits across parts of north-west Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State, where kidnapping-for-ransom and attacks on travellers have remained persistent security challenges.
