The management of Afrobeats singer Ruger has revealed that the singer’s prolonged absence from the music scene was caused by a legal battle with a former girlfriend who allegedly sued him for emotional distress and damages.

In a statement released by Blown Boy Entertainment, the label founded by the singer, the management said Ruger had been dealing with a series of personal challenges after an ex-partner initiated legal proceedings against him, a situation that contributed to his silence and delayed music releases.

“We know it’s been a while since Ruger dropped new music. For some time, Ruger was caught up in a series of personal challenges after someone he dated decided to sue him for alleged ’emotional distress’ and ‘damages’,” the statement read.

The label, however, said the matter has now been resolved, adding that the singer is ready to return fully to his music career after months away from the spotlight.

“That chapter is now behind him. A new chapter begins. A new energy emerges. Ruger is back to doing what he loves most — making music. And best believe, he has been cooking.”

The statement also reassured fans, popularly known as the RU Nation, that the singer has been working behind the scenes despite his absence and is preparing for a major return in the coming months.

Blown Boy Entertainment thanked supporters who remained loyal during what it described as a difficult period for the artiste.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone who remained patient and continued to support Ruger throughout the silence. Your loyalty and belief have meant everything.”

The label further announced that Ruger will embark on a series of international performances this summer, with scheduled appearances in Belgium, Málaga, Bali, Malawi and the United States.

“This summer, you can catch Ruger performing in Belgium, Málaga, Bali, Malawi and United States. August belongs to us. Stay tuned, enjoy your summer and get ready for what’s next.”

Ruger, born Michael Adebayo, launched his independent label, Blown Boy Entertainment, in January 2024 following his exit from Jonzing World, the imprint that helped launch his rise to stardom with hit songs including “Bounce,” “Asiwaju” and “Girlfriend”.
