The Commissioner of Police for Imo State Command, Audu Garba Bosso, has assured of their readiness to provide adequate security during the elections including safeguarding officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The CP gave the assurance when he played host to the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Chukwuemeka Christopher, and the management team at the Command headquarters, Owerri on Wednesday.
Bosso said the command will secure INEC personnel, facilities, and all electoral activities during the electoral process.
He pledged to provide sustained patrols and other proactive measures to safeguard the electoral process.
The Police boss who noted that security was a collective responsibility, appealed to residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
Reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s advocacy of “see something, say something,” he called on Imo people to support efforts aimed at ensuring peaceful, secure, and credible elections in Imo State.
He said, “We are ready to provide adequate security for INEC personnel, facilities, and all electoral activities across Imo State. We will ensure a conducive environment for free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections.”
Earlier, the newly posted Imo REC, Mr Chukwuemeka Christopher commended the Imo State Police Command for their support during previous electoral activities and expressed appreciation for the existing partnership between INEC and the Police.
Christopher called for continued collaboration and requested enhanced security coverage around INEC offices and facilities across the state.
INEC and security agencies traditionally work closely during elections to protect electoral personnel, materials and voters.
Imo state has witnessed heightened security concerns in recent years, making collaboration between the electoral body and security agencies critical to ensuring peaceful and credible polls.
