Peter Obi has vowed to quit 2027 presidential race.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he will withdraw from the 2027 presidential election if Kenneth Okonkwo presents credible evidence proving he is unfit to lead Nigeria.

Obi made the statement during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, while addressing the defamation lawsuit he filed against Okonkwo.

Okonkwo, who was recently appointed spokesperson for the presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has repeatedly claimed to possess damaging information about Obi from the period he served as the former Anambra governor’s spokesperson.

Responding to the claims, Obi challenged Okonkwo to publicly disclose any information he has, insisting that Nigerians deserve full transparency about those seeking elective office.

“I want Kenneth Okonkwo to bring out all the ‘hidden things’ that he has on me. If I am not qualified after his revelation, then I’ll stop running for the election,” Obi said.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate explained that the lawsuit was not intended to silence criticism or suppress free speech but to compel Okonkwo to substantiate his repeated allegations with evidence.

According to Obi, Okonkwo had consistently maintained that he possessed sensitive information capable of damaging his reputation but had refused to make it public.

“Kenneth Okonkwo said, as my spokesperson, he had so many hidden things that if he’s provoked or sued, he will bring them out. And that’s the only thing I’m suing him for—to bring those things out,” Obi added.

The legal dispute comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with both Obi and Okonkwo now on opposing sides of Nigeria’s evolving opposition landscape.
