Francis Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East in the National Assembly, has cast his ballot at his polling unit in Ilase, Obokun Local Government Area, during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

Mr Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), arrived at Polling Unit 001, Ilase NUD Primary School, Ward 04, at about 10:40 a.m. and voted alongside other registered voters.

After voting, the lawmaker urged polling agents and his supporters to monitor the voting process and know for whom voters cast their ballots.

He also made a controversial remark suggesting that residents who did not vote for his party should not be regarded as indigenes of Ilase.

“Anyone who casts votes wrongly is not an indigene of Ilase. I was in Ilesa; I will still be there before going to Ede,” Mr Fadahunsi told his supporters.

Mr Fadahunsi also described the voter turnout at the polling unit as encouraging and urged his supporters to encourage more residents to participate in the election.

“The turnout is encouraging so far. You people should encourage them to vote, and we will see later,” he said.

    Alleged threat

Mr Fadahunsi’s comments came days after he was accused of threatening to kill members of the Accord Party found in Ilesa ahead of the governorship election.

The alleged threat was made on Wednesday when the senator addressed supporters during a protest at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

The protest was organised over what Mr Fadahunsi described as incessant killings of APC members in Ijesaland.

His remarks heightened political tension in the community ahead of Saturday’s election.

Mr Fadahunsi later issued a clarification, saying his use of the word “kill” was intended to mean voting against the opposition.
