KANO: The Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has condemned the reported killing of social media critic, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

Gwarzo, in a statement issued Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, described the incident as disturbing and called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

According to the statement, Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked inside his residence in Gaida, an incident that has raised concerns among residents of the area.

Gwarzo said no citizen should lose his life because of his opinions, criticism or political views, stressing that political and ideological disagreements should not degenerate into violence.

“The killing of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu is deeply disturbing and condemnable. No disagreement, criticism or political difference should ever justify taking a human life,” he said.

The NDC governorship candidate urged security agencies to identify those responsible for the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable was prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He also called on the authorities to strengthen security across communities in Kano State, saying the protection of lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of government.

Gwarzo urged residents to remain calm and refrain from reprisals or taking the law into their own hands, while encouraging anyone with relevant information about the incident to make it available to security agencies.

He expressed condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased, saying Kano State should remain a place where citizens could live and express their views without fear of violence.
