Retirees in Cross River State have appealed to Governor Bassey Otu to review and harmonise their pensions. The Chairman of the Association of Retirees in the state, Daniel Effiong, made the appeal while speaking with reporters on Friday in Calabar. Mr Effiong said pension payments had not been adjusted since 2014, despite successive increases in the national minimum wage. He claimed that some retirees were currently receiving as little as N4,000 monthly, describing the amount as grossly inadequate to meet basic needs, including food and medication. The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has rescued two persons involved in a boat mishap along the Ibaka waterways in Mbo Local Government Area of the state. Timfon John, the police spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Friday. Ms John, a deputy superintendent of police, said the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on 17 September when a blue W23 speedboat christened “LET’S PRAY” sank while travelling on the waterway. The Dollar to Naira exchange rate in Nigeria’s black market, also known as the parallel market, remained steady on Friday, September 18, 2026 with the US dollar trading at N1,375 for buying and N1,390 for selling across major Bureau De Change (BDC) markets. The naira continued to trade within a narrow range despite persistent demand for foreign exchange, while the official market also remained relatively stable. President Bola Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday for a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris. It is the latest in the series of meetings and engagements between Nigeria and France since Mr Tinubu assumed office in 2023.
