Greece will ban access to social media for children under the age of 15 from January 1, 2027, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday, citing rising anxiety, sleep problems and the addictive design of online platforms. In a video message addressed to young people, Mitsotakis said children spending long hours in front of screens do not allow their minds to rest and face growing pressure from constant comparison and online comments. The Greek prime minister said he had spoken with many parents who reported that their children do not sleep well, become anxious easily and spend long hours on…
Benin Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni is expected to make the leap from behind-the-scenes technocrat to head of state on Sunday when he runs as the strong favourite in a presidential election clouded by jihadist attacks in the north. The 49-year-old former Deloitte executive has spent the past decade implementing the economic agenda of outgoing president Patrice Talon, who is barred by constitutional term limits from running again. His campaign points to achievements like tripling the national budget and posting cotton-exporting Benin’s highest GDP growth rates in more than two decades. Talon’s tenure has featured a consolidation of power within the…
For two decades, the Atlético Madrid story at the Camp Nou has been one of frustration; near misses, dominant opponents, and a record that has refused to shift. Since February 2006, Atlético have not won away against Barcelona. Different managers. Different squads. Same outcome. Now, under Diego Simeone, they return again; but this time, with something new. A different edge. A different threat. And at the centre of it, the ace Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman. A new weapon for a familiar battle Lookman’s arrival from Atalanta in January has reshaped Atlético’s attacking profile almost instantly. Five goals. Four assists.…
A woman who admitted to selling Matthew Perry the ketamine that killed him is set to be sentenced Wednesday. Jasveen Sangha will be the third defendant sentenced of the five people who have pleaded guilty in connection with the 2023 overdose of the 54-year-old actor. His role as Chandler Bing on NBC’s “Friends” in the 1990s and 2000s made him one of the biggest television stars of his era. Sangha is the only one whose plea deal included an acknowledgment of causing Perry’s death, and is likely to get the stiffest sentence of the group by far. Prosecutors are asking a federal judge in Los Angeles to sentence…
China’s President Xi Jinping has called for a demand-driven approach coupled with reform and technological empowerment to develop the service sector, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday. China will expand and upgrade the services sector, cultivate more “China service” brands and push production-oriented services toward specialisation and higher positions in the value chain, Xinhua quoted Xi as saying in a directive to a two-day national service industry conference in Beijing that began on Tuesday. China will “emphasise demand-driven development, push forward reform breakthroughs, harness science and technology to drive growth, and expand openness and cooperation,” Xi said. China…
‘Mormon Wives’ star Taylor Frankie Paul can’t have unsupervised visits with toddler son, court rules
Taylor Frankie Paul, a star of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” cannot spend unsupervised time with her 2-year-old son due to a history of volatile behavior directed at the boy’s father while kids were present, a Utah court commissioner ruled Tuesday. Third District Court Commissioner Russell Minas said, “I have concerns going both ways” about competing allegations between Dakota Mortensen and Paul, who was also set to star in the most recent season of “The Bachelorette” before it was pulled days before airing. “Even if he was trying to provoke a response,” Minas said, “the actions that occurred are very troubling.”…
From Gambia’s legal team, Jessica Jones highlighted how the Rohingya faced “longstanding denigration” and hate speech from senior and other members of the Myanmar military. Ms. Jones also referred to a video posted on Facebook in August 2017 featuring a soldier displaying “clear encouragement of genocidal violence against the Rohingya” – actions that would be in clear breach of Myanmar’s obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention. “He told them, and I quote, ‘We will clear the villages where those animals live. We have guns, we have bullets. That’s what we came with, with ammunition and the spirit to attack the…
