The Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions and member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Chinedu Ogah, has called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s correctional system to reduce the rising population of awaiting trial inmates in the different correctional centers across the country. The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed February 24, 2026, to hear a suit seeking to compel the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress and other political parties over alleged constitutional breaches. Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined marginally to 15.10 per cent in January 2026, down from 15.15 per cent recorded in December 2025, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday. This decline came despite earlier projections by analysts that Nigeria’s inflation could climb to 19 per cent in January. The NBS report showed that the Consumer Price Index fell to 127.4 in January from 131.2 in December, representing a 3.8-point decrease.
