Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that his father opposed his decision to pursue a career in music.

Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the Sungba crooner said he left his father’s house at 15 after being discouraged from following his passion.

He said, “The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face. We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no. But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me”.

The singer, however, said his love for his father remains unchanged, noting that nothing would alter their bond, even if his father points a gun at him, he’ll always be his father.

“Even if he points a gun at me, till eternity he will always be my dad, and I will still show him the same love,” he added.

Asake added that he holds both his parents in high regard.

Asake recently made headlines after gifting his mother a car during Ramadan and presenting his father with a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, according to viral videos circulating online.

The development comes amid past controversies involving his father, Fatai Ololade, who had publicly appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance over his deteriorating health.

In March 2025, his father, Malo, a stroke survivor, made headlines after publicly appealing for help in an emotional video. In the widely circulated clip, Odunsi accused his son of neglecting him despite the singer’s rising fame and fortune.

The controversy deepened when Asake’s alleged baby mama, Adijat, also claimed that the singer had neglected her and their daughter, Zeenat, despite her support during his early struggles. The claims sparked widespread backlash online, with fans and some celebrities urging the artiste to reconcile with his family.

Within days, however, reports emerged that Asake had reached out to address the situation. Odunsi later confirmed in a follow-up video that his son had agreed to cover his medical bills, provide support for his daughter and even purchase a new house for him.
