The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Gombe State University branch, has demanded the immediate payment of outstanding entitlements owed to its members, warning of possible escalation if the state government fails to act.

The demand was contained in a communiqué issued after the union’s congress meeting held on Wednesday at the university’s English Lecture Theatre.

According to the communiqué signed by the branch chairman, Dr Mustapha Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Shelleng, the congress reviewed ongoing engagements with the government but expressed disappointment with the outcome.

“The Congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Gombe State University branch, received the reports of the efforts by the leadership to get the government to settle outstanding entitlements of members,” the statement read.

It added, however, that “all efforts made by the leadership in this regard proved abortive.”

The union, therefore, resolved that “the government should settle all outstanding entitlements with immediate effect.”

ASUU listed the outstanding entitlements to include “the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement,” covering “new salary table, enhanced postgraduate supervision allowance, enhanced teaching practice/industrial supervision/field trip allowance, and enhanced responsibility allowance.”

Other demands include “the arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage award,” “the N70,000 minimum wage,” “the arrears of the N30,000 minimum wage,” as well as “the backlog of Earned Academic Allowance covering 2021–2024.”

The union warned that it may escalate the matter if its demands are not met, stressing that “the Congress may consider other options if the government fails to address these issues.”
