The mayor-elect of Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Ifeanyi Onuchukwu (Ikeora), has thanked the people of the area for their overwhelming support and confidence during the August 29 local government elections.
Onuchukwu, in a statement on Sunday, said the massive turnout and peaceful participation of the electorate demonstrated their hope for unity, progress and a better future for the local government.
He said he was deeply honoured by the mandate given to him and pledged to serve the people with humility, responsibility and unwavering commitment.
“This victory belongs to every son and daughter of Ekwusigo, our respected elders, women, youths, traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, party faithful, supporters, volunteers and everyone who prayed, sacrificed and worked tirelessly with us throughout this journey,” he said.
The mayor-elect also appreciated the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the national, state and local government levels for their guidance and support during the election.
He specifically commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for what he described as his visionary and transformational leadership, which he said had strengthened APGA and deepened the confidence of residents in the administration.
Onuchukwu also expressed appreciation to stakeholders across Ekwusigo for their support, counsel and commitment to peace, unity and development throughout the electioneering period.
He called on residents to put the election behind them and unite for the development of the local government.
“The election has come and gone. Now is the time to set aside our differences and unite as one people, bound together by our shared heritage, common destiny and collective aspirations.
“Regardless of political affiliation or personal preference, we are all Ndi Ekwusigo, and the peace, progress and development of our local government must remain our common purpose,” he said.
Onuchukwu pledged to run an open, accountable, responsive and inclusive administration, promising fairness to every community, ward and resident.
“No community will be neglected, no voice will be ignored, and no one will be left behind,” he assured.
He said his administration would prioritise people-centred leadership based on integrity, equity, compassion and service, with the aim of building a safer, stronger, more inclusive and prosperous Ekwusigo.
“Thank you, Ndi Ekwusigo, for believing in our vision and entrusting us with this sacred mandate. Together, we chose progress; together, we will build the Ekwusigo of our collective dreams,” he stated.
