The Rector, Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management, Dr Oladunni Izobo-Martins, has warned its newly admitted students to shun examination malpractice, cultism, harassment, drug abuse, vandalism and other forms of misconduct.

This is as she tasked them on discipline, academic integrity and practical skills acquisition.

Izobo-Martins gave the charge at the matriculation ceremony for new students admitted to the 2025/2026 session of the institution held on Friday at Mowe, Ogun State.

Warning against misconduct, the Rector emphasised that the institution does not toy with discipline and integrity.

“Examination malpractice, cultism, harassment, drug abuse, vandalism and other forms of misconduct are strictly prohibited and attract appropriate sanctions,” she warned.

Izobo-Martins advised students to manage their time wisely, attend lectures regularly and make effective use of workshops, laboratories, ICT facilities and the library.

She said, “Today’s ceremony signifies your formal admission into this Polytechnic. By this process, you are now recognised as bona fide students, subject to our academic regulations and code of conduct.”

Congratulating the matriculating students for meeting NBTE admission requirements and securing placement into accredited programmes, the Rector urged them to value the opportunity and use it responsibly. According to her, “this opportunity must be valued and responsibly utilised, because a polytechnic education is practice-oriented, skills-driven and industry-focused.”

She explained that RECTEM delivers its programmes in strict compliance with NBTE minimum standards, with strong emphasis on the integration of theory and hands-on training.

“Our programmes place priority on continuous assessment, workshop and laboratory competence, entrepreneurship development and industrial exposure,” she added.

As part of efforts to strengthen practical training, the Rector disclosed that the polytechnic has established a product exhibition showroom showcasing students’ works in areas such as textiles, salon services, shoe making, web design and crafts.

She also highlighted the commencement of the RECTEM Solar Hub, which was commissioned yesterday.

“The Solar Hub provides hands-on training in solar sales, installation and maintenance, in response to emerging industry needs.”

The Rector stressed that participation in the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme is mandatory.

“Satisfactory performance in SIWES, continuous assessment and final examinations remains a core requirement for graduation, as stipulated by NBTE,” he added.

She further encouraged students to take advantage of the institution’s partnership with New Horizons for ICT certification.

“This initiative is aimed at enhancing graduate employability and industry relevance,” she said.

Addressing parents and guardians, the Rector appreciated their confidence in the institution and assured them of management’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment. Reaffirming the institution’s vision, she said management remained resolved “to strengthen academic delivery, sustain NBTE compliance and reposition this Polytechnic for excellence, relevance and impact.”

Speaking, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, represented by Mr Abdulhammed Hakeem, said JAMB is only charged with the responsibility of conducting matriculation examinations and placement of suitably qualified candidates.

Oloyede said, “It is in that spirit that I have come here to represent the Registrar and to tell you that all admissions must pass through the Central Admission Process System. Admissions have been analysed and have been found genuine and correct.”

Special Assistant to Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Administration, Oladele Balogun, represented by Emmanuel Otuokere, enjoined students to have the “right attitude to attain the right altitude.”
