AC Milan have opened discussions with Mauricio Pochettino as the Italian club continue their search for a new manager following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.
Pochettino, who is currently in charge of the United States men’s national team, is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, the Argentine coach remains focused on the tournament, but Milan are believed to be interested in appointing him once his contract with U.S. Soccer expires after the World Cup.
The 54-year-old has not managed at club level since leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2023-24 season.
During his only campaign at Stamford Bridge, he guided the Blues to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup final.
Before joining Chelsea, Pochettino spent 18 months with Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup.
He also enjoyed a successful spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent more than five years and led the club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.
Pochettino’s managerial career has also included spells at Southampton and Espanyol, while he earned 20 caps for Argentina during his playing days as a defender.
Milan decided to sack Allegri after failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Rossoneri finished fifth in Serie A after suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Cagliari on the final day of the season.
Despite securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League, Milan officials reportedly viewed the campaign as a major disappointment after missing out on Europe’s top competition for the second consecutive year.
