Access Bank has come under fire as customer alleged mysterious disappearance of ₦3m savings.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Access Bank has come under scrutiny following allegations that millions of naira disappeared from a customer’s account through a series of unexplained withdrawals.
The controversy erupted after a video showing an unidentified woman accusing the bank of failing to resolve the alleged disappearance of her savings went viral on social media.
The woman claimed that suspicious withdrawals had occurred on her Access Bank account since October 2025, gradually reducing her balance from approximately ₦3 million to zero.
In the video, the visibly distressed customer said she had visited the bank repeatedly to lodge complaints but was consistently informed that the matter was under investigation.
“I came to Access Bank; I cannot find my money. They told me that it is under investigation. I came again today, and they told me they’ve contacted their headquarters,” she said.
“I really need help because I can’t do this alone. Since October 2025, they have been taking money from my account. They took everything; not even ₦200 is left in my account. I trusted Access Bank so much, but they took my money.”
The allegation has raised concerns about the security of customers’ deposits and the bank’s handling of disputed transactions.
Access Bank had yet to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawals at the time of filing this report.
An inquiry sent to the Head of Media and Public Relations at Access Holdings Plc, Olakunle Aderinokun, on Thursday afternoon had not received a response.
Unverified claims circulating online suggest that the customer’s Subscriber Identity Module, SIM, may have been linked to another person’s account following a period of inactivity. Access Bank has not confirmed this claim.
Reacting to the controversy, the President of the Bank Customers’ Association of Nigeria said the bank owed the affected customer a full explanation of what happened to her money.
“The bank, in whatsoever circumstances, owes its customers full disclosure. I advise she escalate to the Central Bank of Nigeria if she is saying the truth,” he told DAILY POST.
The incident has intensified calls for Access Bank to address the allegation publicly, disclose the findings of its investigation and clarify how the customer’s account was allegedly depleted without her authorisation.
As of the time of reporting, Access Bank had not issued an official statement on the matter, while the customer’s allegations had not been independently verified.
