Arsenal could make a contract offer to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka at the end of the campaign.
The Gunners explored the possibility of landing a new midfielder this winter after Mikel Merino‘s serious foot injury.
Goretzka was one of the players linked with a deadline day move, but the German was not keen on a mid-season exit.
However, he could pursue a new challenge away from the Bundesliga in the summer. His contract expires at the end of June.
Arsenal are among those in contact with his representatives and could propose a contract offer to the player in the near future.
Goretzka is free to negotiate a pre-contract with an overseas club. Manchester United have also been linked with him.
The German star is reportedly open to a fresh challenge in a foreign league, having spent his career in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal are currently top of the league standings with 56 points, nine ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa.
