The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday raised an alarm over the increasing spread of Lassa fever among health care workers. The disease control agency noted that so far, two health workers have been killed, while 15 confirmed cases of Lassa fever have been documented among health care workers as Nigeria battles another outbreak of the zoonotic disease. The Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions and member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Chinedu Ogah, has called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s correctional system to reduce the rising population of awaiting trial inmates in the different correctional centers across the country. Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined marginally to 15.10 per cent in January 2026, down from 15.15 per cent recorded in December 2025, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday. This decline came despite earlier projections by analysts that Nigeria’s inflation could climb to 19 per cent in January.
