Last weekend, from Thursday, May 28 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, I was in Abia State on an official assignment. I flew from Abuja to Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri and did the 1 hour 30 minutes trip from Owerri to Umuahia by road. It wasn’t my first time in the state whose moniker is” God’s Own State”, but I haven’t been there in about 15 years. Meanwhile, I have heard so much about Governor Alex Otti’s magic in the state and looked forward to seeing things for myself; after all, it is said that seeing is believing!…
Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled its own cutting-edge artificial intelligence models in San Francisco — a crucial step toward reducing its dependence on OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. Microsoft, the first company to have invested massively in OpenAI, has for several years been seeking to reduce its reliance on its Sam Altman-led partner. It renegotiated its alliance last year and retains only a non-exclusive license on its technology until 2032. But Microsoft chief Satya Nadella has been saying it for years: he refuses to end up like IBM, the computing giant that backed the rise of Microsoft before being supplanted by…

Yet amid the destruction, Ukraine’s second-largest city is doing something that may seem almost impossible during wartime: preparing for a better future.“We need to rebuild regardless of the war,” says Ihor Terekhov, the city’s mayor, “because if there is no reconstruction there will be only ruins, and those who left will not return.” Kharkiv City Council Igor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv. Kharkiv, once a thriving centre of industry, science, education and culture near Ukraine’s northeastern border, has become one of the country’s most heavily damaged cities since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. According to Mr. Terekhov, around 13,000 buildings have been damaged…
Maybe the terrorists that trouble Nigeria and the rest of West Africa can be contained if Nigeria leads the revival of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group, ECOMOG, that restored peace to Sierra Leone and Liberia between the 1980s and 1990s. It will be in Nigeria’s enlightened best interest to combine its anti-terrorism efforts with those of other West African countries, gain their support and make a bigger bang for every buck spent on containing the internal and external terrorists who will then have no place to hide. Recall that the frontline nations, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe…
