    Naija negativity, by Donu Kogbara

    By Prima NewsJune 19, 2026

Fatalism is the belief that all events are predetermined and therefore inevitable. Fatalists assume that mere mortals are powerless to influence the future and that all events are decided by fate and outside human control. This type of thinking is common amongst religious people – and most Nigerians are religious or at least superstitious; and I can see why so many Nigerians are convinced that free will is incompatible with the existence of an omniscient God who has foreknowledge of all outcomes. But you know what? This kind of thinking is not doing Nigerians any good! As they try to cope…

    By Prima NewsJune 18, 2026

People are walking along this busy main road as merchants sell fruit and household goods from small stalls. This city scene is perhaps unremarkable, were it not for the fact that the fear of gang violence amongst the population has frequently scared people off the streets of the capital. It is estimated that at least 26, sometimes heavily armed, gangs control perhaps up to 90 per cent of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas fomenting terror amongst Haitians through violence, summary executions, extortion and kidnappings for ransom and preventing commerce by blocking the free flow of goods. Since the beginning of the year, gang violence…

INEC, 2027, and the Death of Voter Trust in Nigeria

    By Prima NewsJune 18, 2026

When only 14 out of 100 registered voters show up, democracy is on life support. When a citizen’s voter data leaks from inside INEC, the system bleeds. With Ekiti, Osun and 2027 looming, the question is brutal: Has INEC become the biggest threat to Nigeria’s elections? The bottom line is that INEC isn’t protecting voters. It’s pushing them out. The law says registration must be continuous. Yet INEC shut it down six months before the 2023 polls, forcing a court battle just to add 31 days. Result: millions begged to vote but couldn’t. This time, the same six-month blackout is…
