The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Benue State, Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, has picked a 38-year-old, Dr Oyije Ochaekiti-Ogbenjuwa, as his running mate.

Aondoakaa, a former minister of justice and attorney general of the federation during the Umaru Yar’Adua administration, unveiled his running mate at the party’s state congress held in Makurdi on Sunday.

The PDP governorship candidate said the nomination of the young man was intended to demonstrate that the party is youth-friendly.

He added that his immediate priority, if elected in 2027, would be to halt the attacks and bloodshed in Benue communities.

He promised that his campaign would not be built on bitterness, division or hatred, but would instead focus on issues, ideas, solutions, unity and service.

He called on every member of the party to close ranks and work together as one united family.

He said, “The journey ahead requires sacrifice, commitment, and collective determination. We must take our message to every ward, every local government, and every household across our dear state.

“To the youth of Benue, I hear your voices and understand your aspirations. You are not the leaders of tomorrow alone; you are critical partners today.”

The governorship candidate also sought the support of women, elders, religious leaders and traditional rulers as preparations for the 2027 election continue.
