Chelsea and Liverpool are both tracking one of Brazil’s most exciting young prospects in Gabriel Mec, with the Gremio teenager quickly emerging as a serious target ahead of the next transfer window.

At just 18, Mec is already gaining valuable first team experience with Grêmio, and while his raw numbers may not yet jump off the page, his development curve is what has clubs across Europe paying close attention. In the current season, Mec has made around eight league appearances, playing just under 300 minutes, with no goals or assists so far.

That might seem modest, but context is important. He is still transitioning from academy football into senior competition, and his performances have already shown flashes of technical quality and confidence on the ball.

What stands out in his statistical profile is his involvement across different phases of play. Mec has contributed tackles, interceptions and recoveries, highlighting a willingness to work defensively as well as offensively.

Chelsea’s interest fits their wider strategy of investing in high ceiling young talent. Mec has been on their radar for some time, and his early exposure to senior football only strengthens the case for a move. Liverpool, meanwhile, are also closely monitoring his progress, with the club looking to refresh their attacking options with younger, more dynamic profiles.

Beyond the numbers, Mec’s appeal lies in his style. He is comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas, capable of carrying it forward and linking play between midfield and attack. These are qualities that translate well to the Premier League, particularly in systems that demand technical intelligence and quick decision making.

There is also a sense that his current stats do not yet reflect his true potential. As his minutes increase and his role becomes more defined, the expectation is that goals and assists will follow. For both Chelsea and Liverpool, this is less about immediate output and more about securing a player who could develop into a top level creative force.
