A new digital automotive platform focused exclusively on Chinese vehicle brands has launched in Nigeria, signalling a deeper shift toward technology-driven car ownership and a rising consumer appetite for alternatives to the country’s dominant used-vehicle market.

ChineseCars.ng said in a statement on Monday that its entry into the market is aimed at transforming how Nigerians discover, evaluate, and purchase brand-new vehicles by providing a centralised, data-driven platform tailored to local needs. The company positions itself as a bridge between global Chinese automakers and Nigerian buyers, combining real-time price estimation, expert reviews, and direct access to dealerships.

The launch comes at a time when Nigeria’s automotive landscape is undergoing structural change.

Demand for Chinese brands including GAC, Changan, Jetour, and BYD has risen sharply across major cities such as Lagos and Abuja, driven by a mix of affordability, improved engineering standards, and the growing appeal of technology-rich features.

At the same time, the long-standing Tokunbo market for foreign-used vehicles is facing mounting pressure from currency volatility, rising import costs, and ageing vehicle stock. Industry participants say these factors are prompting a segment of consumers to consider new vehicles as viable alternatives, particularly where financing options and warranty support are available.

In a move designed to strengthen consumer trust and streamline the buying process, ChineseCars.ng announced a strategic partnership with Carlots.ng, a Nigerian automotive marketplace and data provider. The collaboration will see Carlots.ng serve as the platform’s primary fulfilment and verified data partner, integrating its network of showrooms, pricing intelligence, and financing solutions.

Through the partnership, users of ChineseCars.ng will be able to access verified car listings, comprehensive road test insights, and structured financing options, elements that remain underdeveloped in parts of Nigeria’s fragmented automotive ecosystem.

Speaking on the launch was Ikwu Onyeka, founder of ChineseCars.ng, said the platform was created to tropicalise the car-buying experience by aligning global automotive trends with Nigeria’s unique market realities.

“For too long, Nigerian buyers have been hesitant about Chinese brands due to a lack of centralised information and aftermarket support,” Onyeka said. “By partnering with Carlots.ng, we are not just listing cars; we are building a verified ecosystem that ensures access to vehicles with full warranty support, reliable parts availability, and transparent pricing.”

He added that vehicles such as the luxury GAC GN8 and the technology-focused Changan UNI-K exemplify the type of offerings now entering the Nigerian market, combining advanced features with competitive pricing.

A central focus of the platform is addressing what industry stakeholders describe as aftersales anxiety, a persistent concern among Nigerian car buyers relating to maintenance, spare parts, and servicing infrastructure. To tackle this, ChineseCars.ng will provide detailed guides on parts availability in major Lagos automotive hubs such as Ladipo and Ogba, alongside directories of authorised service centres across the country.

The platform is also expected to play a role in expanding access to vehicle financing, a critical enabler in Nigeria’s current economic climate. By leveraging Carlots.ng’s financing capabilities, ChineseCars.ng aims to lower the barrier to entry for buyers seeking brand-new vehicles, offering structured payment options that align with local purchasing power.

Beyond immediate transactions, the company said its broader ambition is to support Nigeria’s gradual transition toward more modern mobility solutions, including both improved internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles. As Chinese manufacturers continue to expand their global footprint, emerging markets such as Nigeria are increasingly seen as key growth frontiers.

Carlots.ng, which rebranded from Carmart Nigeria in 2024, has positioned itself as a leader in the digitisation of car ownership in West Africa, focusing on verified listings, automotive data, and financing. Its integration into the ChineseCars.ng platform is expected to enhance credibility and improve user confidence in an environment where information asymmetry has historically shaped purchasing decisions.
