The Dollar to Naira exchange rate in Nigeria’s black market stood at approximately N1,365 for buying and N1,380 for selling on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as the naira maintained relative stability against the United States dollar.

The latest quotations indicate that the American currency continues to trade at a premium to the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate, although the difference between the two markets remains relatively contained.

At the prevailing parallel-market rates, Bureau De Change (BDC) operators are buying dollars from individuals at approximately N1,365, while customers purchasing the currency are paying around N1,380 per dollar.

The N15 difference between the buying and selling rates represents the indicative dealer spread. Actual transaction prices may vary depending on location, transaction size and dollar availability.

How Much Is Dollar to Naira Today in the Black Market?

The indicative parallel-market exchange rates for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, are:

    Currency Buying Rate Selling Rate
    US Dollar (USD) N1,365 N1,380

At these rates, the following conversions apply:

    • $100: N136,500 when selling and N138,000 when buying.
    • $200: N273,000 when selling and N276,000 when buying.
    • $500: N682,500 when selling and N690,000 when buying.
    • $1,000: N1,365,000 when selling and N1,380,000 when buying.

The figures represent indicative market quotations and exclude any additional transaction charges.

Naira Trades Firmer Against the Dollar

The naira traded at a stronger indicative level on Wednesday compared with the N1,375 buying and N1,390 selling rates reported in Monday’s Investors King update.

Based on those quotations, both the buying and selling rates declined by N10 per dollar, suggesting a modest improvement in the value of the Nigerian currency.

However, the comparison involves different market reporting sources, and actual movements may vary across dealers.

The relatively narrow trading range provides some predictability for importers, manufacturers and individuals planning international payments.

For businesses dependent on imported raw materials, machinery and finished products, movements in the dollar exchange rate directly affect operating costs and pricing decisions.

Similarly, Nigerians paying overseas tuition fees, medical bills and travel expenses remain sensitive to changes in the dollar’s selling rate.

Official Dollar to Naira Exchange Rate

At the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, the naira closed at approximately N1,334.99 per US dollar on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, compared with N1,333.50 in the preceding session.

The movement represents a depreciation of approximately N1.49 against the dollar in the official market.

Using Tuesday’s official closing rate and Wednesday’s indicative parallel-market selling rate of N1,380, the difference between the two markets stands at approximately N45.01 per dollar.

The comparison uses the latest identified official closing rate rather than a confirmed closing figure for Wednesday’s trading session.

Nigeria’s official foreign exchange market operates under the framework supervised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which publishes exchange rate information and oversees monetary policy.

Factors Influencing Dollar to Naira Exchange Rate

Several economic developments continue to shape the direction of Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

Foreign Exchange Liquidity: Dollar availability through banks, authorised dealers and other market channels remains important to exchange rate stability. Improved supply can ease pressure on the naira when demand remains moderate.

Crude Oil Export Earnings: Nigeria’s crude oil production, export receipts and international oil prices influence the country’s foreign currency inflows.

Import Demand: Manufacturers and importers require dollars to purchase machinery, raw materials and finished products, making international trade an important source of foreign exchange demand.

Foreign Investment: Portfolio investment and foreign direct investment can improve dollar liquidity and support confidence in Nigeria’s financial markets.

Diaspora Remittances: Transfers from Nigerians living abroad contribute to foreign exchange inflows and provide additional sources of dollar supply.

Monetary Policy: Interest rate decisions, inflation expectations and liquidity management measures implemented by the CBN influence capital flows and currency market expectations.

    Dollar to Naira Outlook

The naira’s performance in the coming trading sessions will depend largely on foreign exchange liquidity, demand from importers and the strength of dollar inflows.

Improved export earnings, foreign investment and remittances could provide additional support for the Nigerian currency.

However, increased demand for overseas payments and imported goods could put renewed pressure on the parallel market if dollar supply fails to keep pace.

Market participants will continue monitoring official exchange rate movements, Nigeria’s external reserves, crude oil prices and monetary policy developments for indications of the currency’s near-term direction.
