Ex-NNPP Gov Candidate Defects to ADC

Jigawa State’s 2023 NNPP governorship candidate, Aminu Ringim, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress alongside his supporters in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

PUNCH Online observed that Ringim’s defection comes amid increasing realignments and movement of political heavyweights from various parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ringim announced his defection on Saturday during his ADC membership registration in Ringim, his hometown, amid a large crowd of supporters and state party officials who received him.

The former NNPP leader in Jigawa State said the move was part of efforts to strengthen the opposition in the state ahead of 2027.

“This decision is about building a stronger platform that can truly serve the people of Jigawa and Nigeria,” Ringim said.

Ringim contested in 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party and again in 2019 on the same platform.

In the 2023 general election, he flew the flag of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Jigawa State.

“After wide consultations with my supporters and critical stakeholders, we resolved that the ADC offers the right vision for 2027,” he said.

He described the ADC as a credible alternative capable of addressing the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.

He, however, noted that the country needs unity among opposition forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

Ringim, therefore, called on his supporters across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas to register with the ADC en masse.

Our correspondent reports that the event had a carnival-like atmosphere, as party faithful sang, danced, and waved ADC flags in Ringim town.
