The Federal Government has approved N40.76bn for the third-quarter 2026 disbursement under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, an increase of N7.88bn over the previous quarter’s allocation of N32.88bn.

The government also announced an extension of health insurance coverage to inmates.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, said the decisions reinforced the Federal Government’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians.

In a statement dated October 16, 2026, the minister said, “The decisions reinforce the Federal Government’s commitment to quality, affordable and accessible healthcare, particularly for poor, vulnerable and underserved populations, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).”

The latest allocation represents an “increase of approximately N7.88bn from the N32.88bn allocated for the second quarter of 2026. ”The Basic Health Care Provision Fund is designed to support the delivery of basic healthcare services in Nigeria.

Further details on the implementation of the third-quarter allocation and the arrangements for extending health insurance coverage to inmates were not included in the material provided.
