Victor Osimhen was on target as Galatasaray defeated Fenerbahce 3-0 in a heated Istanbul derby on Sunday, moving closer to a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title.

The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 40th minute, marking his return from injury with a close-range finish to hand the hosts the advantage at Rams Park.

Baris Alper Yilmaz doubled Galatasaray’s lead from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, before Lucas Torreira sealed the emphatic victory with a third goal late in the game.

The win extends Galatasaray’s lead over second-placed Fenerbahce to seven points with four matches remaining, putting them firmly on course to retain the league title.

The encounter was marked by early tension, with both sides involved in a confrontation inside the opening 10 minutes that resulted in bookings.

Fenerbahce had a chance to take the lead in the 13th minute after being awarded a penalty, but Anderson Talisca missed the spot kick, sending his effort wide.

Galatasaray grew into the contest and eventually took control before the break through Osimhen’s strike.

The second half saw further drama, with two Galatasaray goals ruled out for offside following VAR reviews.

Fenerbahce’s hopes of a comeback were effectively ended in the 62nd minute when one of their players was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Galatasaray capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Yilmaz converting from the spot five minutes later to make it 2-0.

Torreira then added the third goal in the 83rd minute to complete a dominant performance by the league leaders.

The result leaves Galatasaray needing to maintain their advantage in the final stretch of the season to secure another league crown.
