The Deputy Inspector-General of Police supervising the South-East Geopolitical Zone and in charge of Logistics and Supply, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has called for a unified approach among security agencies within the South-East region to reduce crime and enhance security.

He made the call while embarking on an operational visit to Imo State as part of his strategic assessment tour of the South-East Geopolitical Zone, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

During the visit, the DIG paid an operational visit to the State Police Command, where he was received by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, along with his management team and senior officers of the command.

Addressing officers and men of the command, DIG Onwuemelie emphasised the need for professionalism, discipline, accountability and intelligence-led policing.

He urged officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.

The DIG commended the command for its commitment and operational efforts towards safeguarding lives and property in the state, while urging officers and men to remain dedicated, vigilant and responsive in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

He further stressed the need for continuous collaboration between the police, other security agencies, government institutions, traditional rulers, community leaders and other critical stakeholders, noting that collective responsibility remains key to addressing contemporary security challenges.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police also highlighted the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force towards embracing modern crime-fighting technologies, including artificial intelligence, drones and other innovative security solutions, to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance, investigation and proactive policing in combating crime and criminality.

As part of his engagements in the state, DIG Onwuemelie, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and members of the command’s management team, paid a courtesy visit to Eze Imo, C.C. Okeke, where he solicited the continued support and partnership of traditional institutions in the collective quest to improve peace and security in the state.

The DIG, while addressing Eze Imo, acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and community security.

Responding, Eze Imo reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to supporting security agencies in sustaining peace across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, in his remarks, appreciated the visit of the DIG and assured the people of the state of the command’s continued commitment, in synergy with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, to protecting lives and property while promoting a safe and peaceful environment.
