The legislative council of Kura Local Government Area has suspended its Executive Chairman, Alhaji Rabiu Abubakar Sulaiman Kura, and his deputy, Alhaji Bello Gambo Kura, for three months over allegations of financial mismanagement and administrative irregularities.

The council stated that the suspension will allow a full and transparent investigation into the claims.

The probe will focus on the handling of public funds and the procedures for land allocations. Malam Ibrahim Tijjani Na’abba, councillor for Kura Ward, said the action was taken in the interest of fairness and accountability.

“Today, we have officially suspended the chairman for three months,” he said. “We will also forward the matter to the Kano State House of Assembly for further investigation. We believe that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Speaker of the State Assembly will ensure justice is served.”

Na’abba added that the case involves large sums of money, suggesting the alleged mismanagement is serious.

Hamza Abdullahi, councillor representing Dan Hassan Ward, also confirmed the suspension and raised concerns about the impact on local traders.

“I have long advocated for justice for traders,” he said. “Some of them started with as little as 5,000 capital, but were displaced to make way for others. We are appealing to the governor to look into this matter and assist the affected traders.”

He further called on the state government to consider building free market stalls and providing shops to displaced traders at no cost.

However, Yahuza Ashiru Zakariyya, the Minority Leader and councillor for Tanawa Ward, defended the chairman and his deputy, saying the allegations are not true.
“I do not believe that the chairman and his deputy committed any wrongdoing,” he said.
