An aspirant for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Abdulrasheed Akogun, has said the growing number of aspirants seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership and popularity in the state.

Akogun stated this on Monday after participating in the APC screening exercise for House of Assembly aspirants in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He commended members of the screening committee for conducting what he described as a seamless, transparent, and credible exercise.

“The screening exercise went seamlessly and smoothly. It was, to a large extent, free, fair and credible, just like the entirety of the processes thus far,” he said.

Akogun noted that the high number of aspirants contesting for various positions under the APC platform demonstrated the confidence many politicians and stakeholders have in the ruling party in Kwara State.

According to him, the development is directly linked to the performance and leadership style of Governor AbdulRazaq, whom he described as having repositioned the APC as the dominant political force in the state.

“That is a clear pointer to the worthy and purposeful leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has, with his scintillating performance, endeared the party to the generality of Kwarans and made the platform attractive to all and sundry desirous of flying its flag,” he said.

The APC aspirant disclosed that no fewer than 158 aspirants are vying for the party’s tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara State ahead of the elections.

“Therefore, that accounts for the high number of House of Assembly aspirants, where we have 158 aspirants bidding to fly the flag of the party in the 24 state constituencies available,” he added.

Akogun, who served as Director of Media and Publicity of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Campaign Organisation during the 2019 governorship election, also expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 polls.

He claimed that the opposition in Kwara State had lost relevance, insisting that securing the APC ticket already gives aspirants a major electoral advantage.

“The opposition is dead in Kwara State. Whoever gets the ticket of the party is already 80 per cent completed,” he said.

Speaking on his ambition to represent Share/Oke-Ode constituency, Akogun said his years of political engagement and grassroots mobilisation across the constituency have positioned him strongly ahead of the contest.

“Judging from my years of service in the constituency, having served as Director of Media and Publicity of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Campaign Organisation in 2019 and my continuous connection with the grassroots across my constituency, the enthusiasm is high that I will get the nod of stakeholders, party members, and the leadership to fly the party’s ticket towards ensuring an effortless general election,” he said.

The APC has continued preparations for the 2027 general elections across states, with party stakeholders expressing confidence in retaining political control in key states, including Kwara.
