The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit from all traffic control and traffic violation enforcement across the state.

The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the statement, the decision forms part of ongoing efforts by the command to streamline traffic management operations, ensure accountability, and promote professionalism among agencies involved in enforcement duties.
The police clarified that while the Taskforce has been relieved of traffic-related responsibilities, it will continue to carry out its other statutory duties across the state.

The Command also cautioned residents against generalising or misidentifying enforcement bodies, noting that the disbanded unit is not the only taskforce operating within Lagos.

Motorists and members of the public were urged to verify the identity of officials before making complaints or allegations, particularly on issues relating to traffic enforcement.

Reaffirming its commitment to law and order, the Command assured residents that it would continue to safeguard lives and property while ensuring all operations align with established legal frameworks and global best practices.
