The National Association of Resident Doctors has formally welcomed Prof. Shehu Abdulrahman as the new Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, marking a significant step in resolving a longstanding staff dispute.

The ceremonial event, held on Monday, 30 March 2026, at the hospital premises, brought together key stakeholders from across the state, members of the hospital community, and leaders of NARD.

During the event, the association presented a congratulatory roll-up banner to the new CMD, while NARD’s President, Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman, conveyed warm wishes for a seamless and impactful tenure.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by NARD Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr Abdulmajid Ibrahim, the association highlighted key developments under the new CMD, including the completion of the reinstatement process of the so-called FTH Lokoja 5+2—five previously reinstated staff plus two remaining colleagues.

“The new CMD has approved the reinstatement of the remaining two sacked colleagues, thereby concluding the full reinstatement of the FTH Lokoja 5+2,” the statement said, noting that the action was one of Prof. Abdulrahman’s first official engagements upon assuming office.

The statement added that administrative processes for the issuance of formal reinstatement letters are ongoing, while salaries and arrears for previously reinstated members have begun to be paid.

“This marks a critical step forward, and NARD remains steadfast in ensuring the full payment of all outstanding entitlements,” it said, describing the resolution as a reflection of the association’s resilience and commitment to defending the welfare of its members.

In recognition of the collective effort, the Congress of ARD FTH Lokoja honoured NARD’s President and Secretary-General with awards of appreciation, presented by the new CMD and Past NMA President, Prof. Mike Ogirima.

The association reiterated its commitment to engaging the hospital management to foster a harmonious working environment and improve welfare and remuneration for all members.

NARD also expressed gratitude to stakeholders, including the Honourable Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako, Chairman of CCMDs/MDs, Prof. Saad Ahmed, and NMA President Prof. Bala M. Audu, for their role in securing the final resolution of the matter.

“Together, we have not only secured justice but also reinforced the strength and unity of our great association,” the statement concluded.
