Nasarawa United head coach Mbwas Mangut has insisted his side are ready to respond in the final stretch of the Nigeria Premier Football League season as they continue their push for continental qualification, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Lafia-based club currently sit fifth on the table with 51 points, four behind leaders Enugu Rangers, and will travel to face El-Kanemi Warriors in the North East today.

Nasarawa United head into the fixture looking to recover from a shock 1-0 home defeat to bottom-placed Kun Khalifat, a result that has placed added pressure on their ambitions heading into the final five matchweeks of the campaign.

Following that setback, Mangut met with the club’s management and stressed that the team remain focused on securing a continental ticket, while not ruling out a late push in the title race.

The coach emphasised that the squad have drawn on their resilience and are determined to finish the season strongly despite recent challenges.

“As we enter the final five games of the season, I wish to assure you that we have summoned the resilience that has defined our club’s storied history,” Mangut said as quoted by the NPFL.

“The time for reckoning is upon us; we will rise to the occasion and ensure that the remaining part of our campaign concludes on a note of dignity and competitiveness.”

“Let me assure our dedicated and loyal supporters and fans across the globe that we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to address the issues that have led to our recent predicament.”

“From our general resolve, we are regrouping, reassessing and recommitting ourselves to the pursuit of a continental ticket, and possibly lay our hands on the NPFL trophy.”

Mangut also made clear that the defeat to Kun Khalifat FC will not define their season, insisting the team are determined to respond positively in the remaining fixtures.

“How we end the season shouldn’t be defined by a single result because we have resolved to rise and fight, and emerge stronger from the ashes of previous defeats,” he concluded.

With five matches left to play, Nasarawa United’s clash against El-Kanemi Warriors could prove pivotal as they attempt to revive their campaign and secure a place in continental competition.
