A Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Prof. Sharafadeen Kehinde Okunade, has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State chapter.

Okunade, who is also a consultant at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, was elected during the association’s Annual General Meeting held on July 28, 2026.

The election, conducted through an electronic voting system by the national leadership of the NMA under the President, Prof. Akhinde Omoti, ushered in a new State Officers Committee to oversee the affairs of the association from 2026 to 2028.

The election followed the conclusion of activities marking the end of the 2024–2026 tenure of the immediate past Lagos NMA Chairman, Dr. Babajide Saheed.

The association had earlier held its opening ceremony and scientific conference on July 27, 2026, as part of events to round off the outgoing administration.

At the AGM, members also approved amendments to the Lagos State NMA Rules and Regulations (Bye-Law), introducing electronic voting during election AGMs and the establishment of a Welfare Trust Fund.

The amendments were introduced by the immediate past executive led by Saheed.

Other members elected into the new State Officers Committee are Dr. Moruf Abdulsalam as First Vice Chairman, Dr. Olabisi Olanrewaju as Second Vice Chairman, Dr. Chinedum Eluogu as Secretary, and Dr. Olunike Ogundare as Deputy Secretary.

Also elected were Dr. Morolayo Kikelomo Onamusi as Treasurer, Dr. Adeola Salawu as Publicity Secretary, Dr. Korede Hunpatin as Social Secretary, Dr. Aishat Bello-Taslim as Financial Secretary, and Dr. Olanrewaju Obadeyi as Internal Auditor.
