Old video of Governor Monday Okpebholo threatening Peter Obi has resurfaced after Edo attack.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that an old video of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, allegedly warning former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has resurfaced online.
The video, which is currently circulating on social media, was recorded on July 18, 2025, during a political event in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In the 58-second clip, the governor was heard cautioning Obi against entering the state without informing him in advance.
“The man wey say he no get shishi, I am sending a direct message to him, there is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo State without telling me because his security will not be guaranteed. Whatever happens to him in Edo State, he will take it. I am serious about this,” the governor said in the video.
Resurfacing After Alleged Gun Attack
The video resurfaced on Tuesday following an alleged assassination attempt on Obi and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the residence of former Edo State Governor and current ADC chairman in the state, John Odigie-Oyegun.
A viral video recorded after the incident showed damaged windscreens and parts of Obi’s convoy reportedly hit by gunfire.
Mixed Reactions Online
Following the incident, some social media users linked the resurfaced clip to the alleged attack, expressing concerns over the former Anambra State governor’s safety.
One X user, @Victorfelix047, referenced the governor’s 2025 remarks while reacting to the reported attack, urging that nothing should happen to Obi.
As of the time of filing this report, the Edo State Government has not issued an official response regarding the resurfaced video or the alleged attack.
Security agencies are yet to release a detailed statement on the incident.
