Veteran Nollywood actor, Sunday Afolabi, popularly known for his role in the classic Yoruba film Owo Blow, has returned to acting after a period away from the screen during which he reportedly worked as a commercial driver in Lagos.

The development was disclosed by fellow actor, Adeniyi Johnson, who shared a photo of Afolabi on a movie set via Instagram on Sunday, signalling what appears to be a comeback for the veteran.

Johnson revealed that Afolabi is currently featuring in a new production titled ILEKE, produced by his wife, Seyi Edun, also known as Shai, and directed by Adebayo Tijani.

“Ladies and gentlemen @sundayafolabi22 is back!!! Available for shoots in and out of Lagos even Naija!! Versatile and professional to the core!!!” Johnson wrote, indicating that the actor is already back in active production.

Afolabi’s return comes weeks after a viral video circulated online showing him around a Lagos commercial minibus, where he appeared to be assisting passengers, adjusting seats and calling out destinations, typical routines associated with commercial transport operators.

The footage sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the condition of the actor, who appeared noticeably older and leaner.

In a 2025 conversation with actor Kunle Afod, Afolabi reportedly opened up about personal and financial challenges, including the loss of his wife, which significantly affected his life and career trajectory.

He was said to have explained that venturing into commercial driving was a practical decision to sustain himself while waiting for acting roles.

Afolabi, who rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s Yoruba movie scene, featured in several productions over the years, including Luwo Gbagida (2025), The Lost Heir (2018), and The Herbert Macaulay Affair (2019).

However, like many actors of his generation, his presence in mainstream productions declined as the industry shifted towards newer faces, faster production cycles, and evolving storytelling styles.

His last known screen appearance before his recent comeback was in the Africa Magic series Itura in 2023.

His reappearance on set has since been met with relief and excitement from fans and colleagues, many of whom had earlier called for support for the veteran following the viral video.
