The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects over alleged involvement in the theft and sale of stolen tricycles in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said in a statement on Wednesday that the arrests followed a complaint by Ayuba Muhammad, who reported that his tricycle was stolen at Panshekara Quarters on January 24, 2026.

Kiyawa said, “The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects involved in a case of criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.”

He identified five of the suspects as 20-year-old Salim Zakari, 17-year-old Faruk Abubakar, 20-year-old Yusuf Garba, 19-year-old Mastur Shehu, and 23-year-old Safiyanu Suleiman.

According to the statement, the stolen tricycle, valued at ₦3.5m, was sold to Umar Bello Dahiru.

“The stolen tricycle with Registration Number BBR 195 CB and KAROTA Number NMC 1229, valued at ₦3,500,000.00, was sold to Umar Bello Dahiru ‘M’, 24 years old,” the statement read.

The command said investigations also linked the suspects to another tricycle theft at Yankusa Quarters.

Kiyawa added, “Discreet investigation led to the arrest of the sixth suspect, Umar Bello Dahiru, where the two tricycles were recovered from him.”

The police further disclosed that a horse allegedly purchased with proceeds from the crime was recovered.

“Also, a horse valued at ₦800,000.00 bought with the proceeds of the crime by the principal suspects was recovered,” the statement said.

The command noted that Dahiru confessed to knowingly buying stolen property.

“Umar Bello Dahiru confessed to buying the tricycles knowing they were stolen,” Kiyawa stated.

Police confirmed that the recovered tricycles had been returned to their owners, Ayuba Muhammad and Abdullahi Adamu, adding that investigations were ongoing.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led policing.
