Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspect for allegedly vandalising reflective road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The arrest was made on April 6, 2026, at about 17:30 hours, after the suspect was reportedly caught tampering with road studs installed to improve visibility and guide motorists, especially at night and during poor weather conditions.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the command, the suspect, identified as Dogara John, was apprehended while allegedly removing the reflective studs, with a search at the scene leading to the recovery of 20 of the items in his possession.

The police said the installations are critical to road safety, stressing that they help motorists navigate safely and reduce the risk of accidents on the busy Third Mainland Bridge.

“These road studs play a vital role in helping drivers stay on course and in preventing accidents, particularly on a busy route like the Third Mainland Bridge,” the statement said.

Reiterating its stance on public infrastructure protection, the command warned against vandalism, saying such behaviour puts lives at risk.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, was quoted as saying that the command maintains zero tolerance for the destruction of public assets across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and any form of damage to public infrastructure,” the statement read.

He added that such acts undermine ongoing safety efforts in the state, stressing the need for public vigilance and cooperation.

“He noted that such actions not only endanger lives but also undermine ongoing efforts to maintain safety and order across the state,” it added.

The command further urged residents to report suspicious activities around public infrastructure through emergency lines as investigations into the incident continue.
