Shooting Stars Sports Club made a winning start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after beating Inter Lagos 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday evening.
The Oluyole Warriors started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute through Lucky Emmanuel.
The forward showed good skill inside the box after receiving the ball from a throw-in on the right. He beat his marker before firing a powerful shot past the Inter Lagos goalkeeper.

Inter Lagos FC quickly responded and levelled the score just seven minutes later.
Adigun Damilare connected with a well-delivered cross and made no mistake with his finish to bring the visitors back into the game.
Both teams continued to battle for control, but Shooting Stars regained the lead before half-time.
Emmanuel was brought down inside the penalty area after Sodiq Ibrahim had played him into the box, giving the hosts a chance to go ahead again.
Sodiq Ibrahim stepped up to take the penalty and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.
Inter Lagos FC pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Shooting Stars remained organised and defended their advantage well.
The visitors were unable to find a way through as the Oluyole Warriors held on to claim all three points.
The victory gives Shooting Stars Sports Club an important boost at the start of the new NPFL campaign, while Inter Lagos will have to wait for another opportunity to get their first points of the season.
