Old boys of St. Joseph’s College, Ondo, will on March 19 launch a drive to raise N100m to support the development of their alma mater.

The endowment fund launch is part of the line-up of events from March 18 to 22 to mark the anniversary.

St. Joseph’s College, Ondo, was founded in 1956 by the De La Salle Brothers.

Speaking ahead of the endowment fund launch, the outgoing President of the institution’s National Old Boys Association, Dr Olusola Akinniyi, said the fund will be used annually to support teachers’ welfare, equip laboratories and provide scholarships for indigent students.

While noting that the fund will operate in perpetuity, he urged old students over the years to participate actively in the anniversary celebrations and support the endowment fund.

According to the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Yele Ogundipe, the week-long celebration will begin on Wednesday, March 18, with a Platinum Jubilee Walk, followed by an inter-school football match between St. Joseph’s College, Ondo and Methodist High School, Okitipupa at the Ondo Sports Stadium.

Activities will continue on Thursday, March 19, with the launch of the endowment fund and commissioning of projects within the school premises.

On Friday, March 20, a medical outreach will be held for members of the community at the Ondo Town Hall.

The programme will proceed on Saturday, March 21, with a Gala Night, Endowment Fund Drive and Awards Ceremony at the Ondo Civic Centre.

The celebration will conclude on Sunday, March 22, with a thanksgiving service at the school chapel.

The Chairman of the Publicity and Publication Committee for the anniversary, Mr Henry Akinyele, said the several events are expected to bring together students, alumni, staff and distinguished guests from across the country.

He noted that the college has produced distinguished Nigerians who have excelled in various fields, including former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun; and the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, among other captains of industry, business leaders and academics.
