Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Uche Montana, has recorded a major digital milestone as her latest film, Monica 2, surpassed 10 million views on YouTube within two days of release.

The sequel, which premiered on May 2, 2026, on her YouTube channel, Uche Montana TV, gained rapid traction, reinforcing the growing dominance of digital distribution in Nollywood.

Within hours of its release, the film drew significant audience engagement, hitting about 1.2 million views in four hours, climbing to over four million within the first 12 hours, and crossing six million within 24 hours.

By May 4 (Today) it had exceeded the 10 million mark, according to figures displayed on the platform.

Reacting to the milestone, Montana expressed gratitude to her audience, writing, “10M in 2 days. No explanation, just God.”

Monica 2 builds on the success of the original Monica, which also recorded millions of views within weeks of its release earlier in 2026. The franchise has quickly become one of the standout YouTube-driven Nollywood productions of the year.

The film continues the story of Monica, played by Montana, as she navigates complex family relationships, particularly tensions with her mother, portrayed by Blessing Onwukwe, while also adjusting to married life.

Actor Joseph Momodu plays her husband, delivering a performance that has drawn praise from viewers, alongside other cast members, including John Ekanem.

Audiences have commended the sequel for its emotional depth, relatability, and strong storytelling, with many highlighting its themes of family conflict, personal growth, and setting boundaries.

The success of Monica 2 reflects a broader shift in Nollywood, where YouTube releases are competing with, and in some cases outperforming, traditional cinema distribution.

One of the most notable examples is Omoni Oboli’s Love in Every Word franchise, which has recorded impressive digital numbers. The first instalment amassed millions of views shortly after its 2025 release, eventually surpassing 30 million views, while its sequel, Love in Every Word 2: The Wedding, crossed over six million views within its first two days and continued to grow significantly.

Like Monica 2, the films gained traction through strong storytelling, emotional resonance, and social media virality, highlighting the growing influence of direct-to-YouTube distribution for Nigerian filmmakers.

For Montana, the rapid success of Monica 2 further cements her position among a new generation of filmmakers redefining how Nigerian films are produced, distributed, and consumed.
